Our story…

Hi, I’m Heather Astwood, licensed Maryland contractor and owner of Foundation Management and Drainage LLC. After 10+ years of conducting home inspections and seeing thousands of mis-managed foundation problems I decided homeowners in Maryland need a better solution. Traditional basement waterproofing companies are doing it wrong, costing homeowners $10k+ for systems that don’t address the underlying problem. I have a background in geology, vast experience as a home inspector, cut my teeth doing drainage while developing a 60-acre lot (see picture to right), and have worked with engineers specializing in residential foundations for 10 years. I listen to the engineers. I know what I’ve seen. Most foundation water problems are best solved by keeping water away from the house, not pricey interior basement drain systems and sump pumps. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen expensive basement drain systems installed by contractors that do nothing to solve the problem of excessive water around the house, because the problem is poor exterior grading and drainage. Hence the idea was born: Foundation Maintenance and Drainage, LLC, the first MHIC contractor to utilize geologists and engineers to solve basement water concerns.

We are a small company. We focus on quality. We do what we’ll say we do. I run the business, Melodie Brodin is our Office Administrator, Kyle Branthover is our Installation Manager, and our engineering partner is ASA Engineering Group, LLC.
